The Crossing
A podcast about two families divided by history, now uniting in love
I'm Angana Chakrabarti, a multimedia journalist based in Assam, India. I'm getting married very soon and the journalist in me couldn't resist spinning my love story into a podcast. So, even as I prepare for my wedding I'll be producing a 9-episode podcast series on the rich histories of two families—mine, rooted in pre-partition Bengal (in a village in the now Bangladesh), and my fiancé’s, steeped in Assam's Ahom heritage. My podcast looks into the untold stories of the Partition of Bengal, migration, love, and identity across generations, and discovers the secrets that shaped the paths to our big day.
But I need your help to make this story come to life!
Support 'The Crossing'
This podcast is more than just a personal narrative. It is a reflection on migration, identity, and love, set against the backdrop of Bangladesh, West Bengal and Assam’s fraught history. The Partition of Bengal and its impact on the sociopolitical landscape of the region rarely finds a mention in our popular culture. As I prepare to marry into an Assamese family, I want to peel back the layers of our shared history—both the tender and the painful—and explore what it means to belong.
But I need your support.
Creating a podcast that thoughtfully unpacks these complex and intimate stories requires time, resources, and care. Your donation will help cover essential production costs, including research, recording equipment, editing, and distribution. No matter the size, every contribution breathes life into this story and comes with a perk! You get to actively contribute to a question or topic that I will include in the podcast, be a part of live Q&A Sessions and get exclusive behind-the-scenes content from my reporting trips across the subcontinent.
Thank you for your generosity and belief in this story.
